General

Which type of trip is right for me?

There are various travel styles to choose from for your journey across the Indian sub-continent, and the most suitable one depends on your interests and travel objectives. Here are some questions to contemplate
when determining the ideal trip style for you:

What is the purpose of your trip – Culture, Heritage/History, People, Festivals, Adventure, Ayurveda, Wellness, or simply
relaxation?

What is your personality? Are you outgoing and enjoy meeting
new people, or are you more introverted and prefer independent exploration?

What is your budget? Do you intend to indulge in a luxurious vacation or opt for a more cost-effective option?

What is your preferred mode of transportation, or would you
like a combination of various methods? Do you relish road trips, train journeys, or flying?

How much time do you have? Are you seeking a brief weekend
escape or a more extended journey – for instance, for a trip to India, a minimum of 7 days is recommended?

Providing responses to the aforementioned questions can
assist you in pinpointing the type of travel that aligns best with your requirements.

Are trips physically demanding?

Fancy lounging in a hammock, only stirring when cocktail hour arrives? We have a trip tailored to that preference. Alternatively, if you're eager to conquer a lofty mountain at high altitudes, we've got you covered as well. To ascertain which trip suits you best, each of our trips is accompanied by a Physical Rating to provide insights into its level of physical exertion.

We trust this information proves beneficial! Our team is at your service to aid with your travel plans, so please don't hesitate to contact us at hello@paromatravels.com

Do ParomaTravels offer family trips?

Indeed, as a specialized operator, we focus on curating and coordinating top-tier family tour packages that assure relaxation and entertainment for the entire family. These family packages encompass a wide array of sightseeing tours, historical excursions, enjoyable activities, a touch of adventure, and opportunities for family bonding, catering to all age groups from adults and children to the elderly.

Does ParomaTravels manage group travel?

Certainly, ParomaTravels excels in managing all forms of travel, including both individual travelers (FITs) and groups.

How many individuals are considered a group?

We classify any group of 6 or more people traveling together as a group.

Are thereage restrictions on your trips?

There is no age restriction on our trip.

Who will be leading our group?

Your group will have an assigned guide or tour manager, and you will receive notification about them before your arrival. We can assure you that they are highly
experienced. Our tour managers are experts in their respective regions, either from years of travel there or because they are locals excited to show you around. For longer journeys or trips that cross multiple countries, you may encounter a change in leaders partway through, which just means double the awesomeness.

Can I make any changes to the itinerary of my group trip, either before or during the trip?

Please ensure that you are satisfied with your group trip itinerary before booking because we are unable to make changes during your journey. However, if you and a group of friends, colleagues, or even your school would like a personally customized itinerary, please contact our highly skilled team, and we can create a tailored itinerary just for you.

Can I add an extra night at the beginning or end of my group trip?

Certainly, you have the option to add an additional night at the start or end of your group trip. Feel free to inquire with your adventure consultant when making your booking.

I'm traveling alone – is that OK?

This is one of the advantages of our programs tailored for the destinations we serve. Many of our travelers join because they are solo travelers looking to explore and experience the regions. The areas we cover are entirely safe for solo travelers, and our local team maintains regular contact with travelers throughout their journey. Furthermore, since our programs are customized and private, you'll have the services of a chauffeur-driven car, our local representative in each destination, and local guides during sightseeing and excursions.

I have a disability – can I travel?

ParomaTravels is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. We kindly request that you inform ParomaTravels about your physical or mental disability in advance so that we can plan accordingly.

Where possible, we will make reasonable adjustments to ensure our trips accommodate the needs of disabled travelers. This might include booking ground floor accommodations or having our leaders provide important instructions in both written and verbal formats. Many travelers with disabilities have enjoyed our trips by traveling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. Please reach out to our sales team for further information on any of our itineraries.

Are your trips suitable for LGBTQIA+ travellers?

Everyone should feel comfortable when they travel with Paroma Travels, and we acknowledge that many of our travelers identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. It's essential for our travelers to be informed about the local laws and customs in the destinations we visit, as some countries may have laws that discriminate against LGBTQIA+ individuals. We recommend visiting Equaldex and/or Smartraveller for up-to-date advice and information on LGBTQIA+-related laws before selecting your trip.

Hotels in the regions we serve are gender-neutral and do not discriminate between travelers.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, violence (verbal or physical), or sexual harassment, whether it involves travelers, our leaders, partners, or local individuals. If you encounter inappropriate behavior while traveling with us, please notify our office immediately or contact us using the emergency contact number provided in the Problems and Emergency Contact section of your Essential Trip Information.

I have special dietary requirements – will they be catered to?

We will make every effort to accommodate all dietary requirements, but in some remote locations, it can be quite challenging to guarantee this. If there are places on your itinerary where catering to specific dietary needs is difficult, we will inform you. Please inform us at the time of booking about any dietary requirements or allergies you have, and we will relay this information to the hotels and our local offices. Additionally, it's a good idea to carry a card with your dietary requirements written in the local language for occasions when you dine outside of your accommodations.

What will the food be like on my trip?

Food is one of the most exciting aspects of travel. Most of the hotels in the program serve international cuisine. While you may encounter some familiar dishes, you'll often have the opportunity to explore new, interesting, and occasionally unusual culinary delights. We consider it an adventure for all the senses. Furthermore, our flexible itineraries often provide you with the option to dine at local restaurants that cater to various budgets and preferences.

Can I drink the water in the countries I visit?

In some destinations, it may not be advisable to consume the local water. We recommend drinking bottled water, which will be readily available at the hotel where you are staying and in the transport you will be using. If it's not readily available, please don't hesitate to ask, and our local team will be more than happy to assist.

How to book a tour?

Most of our trips offer the option to book online. You can also request a booking via email or contact us by phone.

When will I know all the details of my trip?

All trip details are available online. If you need more information, please contact us by email at hello@paromatravels.com

Is my trip guaranteed to run?

Once you confirm with payment, all our tours are guaranteed to operate. While we aim never to cancel a trip, unforeseen circumstances can sometimes arise. In such cases, we will notify you at least one month before your scheduled departure date or as soon as possible.

My itinerary has been changed, what can I do?

You should have received an email from us explaining the changes to your itinerary and any available options. If you have further questions, please reach out by phone or email.

I can’t travel on the dates I originally booked; can I change the dates?

You can change your travel plans by referring to the policy shared with you at the time of booking. Any advance payment will be refunded or held as a credit for future travel. It's advisable to consider cancellation insurance at the time of booking to cover cancellation fees.

My traveling companion can no longer go on our trip. Can someone take their place or can I get a refund?

It depends on how close you are to departure. In some circumstances, we may be able to transfer the spot to another traveler for a fee if it's outside the pay-in-full period. Within this period, further fees may apply. Please contact us to discuss your options.

I want to cancel my booking; how can I do this?

Please get in touch by email at hello@paromatravels.com Cancellations can only be processed with written confirmation from you. Cancellation fees may apply, as indicated in the booking and cancellation policy shared with you at the time of booking.

I requested trip extras but don't need them anymore. What are my options?

Trip extras (e.g., airport transfers and extra accommodation) are non-refundable, but you can cancel and request adjustments for other activities. For other activity options, please contact us by email.

I want to cancel my booking, can I get a full refund?

Please refer to the booking, amendment, and cancellation policy shared with you at the time of booking. Payment will be requested in accordance with this policy and its timelines. In the case of a cancellation outside the cancellation period, you can transfer your deposit to another trip or keep it as credit for future travel. For most of our trips, credits do not have an expiry date. We can also provide a letter for a travel insurance claim if your policy covers trip cancellation. If you wish to make changes to your booking outside the cancellation period, you may incur a cancellation penalty. We strongly recommend taking out cancellation insurance at the time of booking, which may cover cancellation fees.

I can no longer go on my trip due to ill health, can I get a refund?

Please get in touch with our friendly sales consultant to review your circumstances and discuss your options.

How long will it take for my refund to be credited to my bank account?

We try to process refunds as quickly as possible, but it may take 14 to 21 days, depending on your bank and external systems beyond our control. If the funds are not back in your account within 21 days, please contact us.

Mode of payment?

We also accept payment by PayPal, but a surcharge may apply. Our preferred payment method for your trip is by Bank Transfer, which is the safest option.

Is there a surcharge when paying by PayPal or Credit Card?

Yes, surcharges apply when paying for your trip with a credit card or via PayPal. The applicable surcharge will be shared with you at the time of payment.

Why do you take full payment before the tour?

We request full payment for all our trips to confirm each part of your travel with our local offices and suppliers as we proceed. The booking, amendment, and cancellation terms will be shared with you at the time of booking.

Why is the deposit for my trip non-refundable?

We require a deposit because our operations team starts booking your services with local suppliers immediately. Many of these services (e.g., on-tour activities like hotels) are non-refundable and cannot be transferred or used by another traveler. Even if services can be canceled, they might incur a cancellation or administrative fee covered by your deposit. The booking, amendment, and cancellation terms will be shared with you at the time of booking.

I booked a trip with friends; can I pay my share of the deposit only?

If you'd like to pay only your share of the deposit to keep your finances organized, please contact our team consultants by email, and they can assist you in planning.

I made a payment for the wrong amount, what are my options?

If you paid too much by mistake, please contact us by email to arrange a refund.

When is the final due date for my trip?

The full payment requirement will be shared with you at the time of booking with a request to make the payments to avoid trip cancellation. We'll also send you an email at least a week before the due date to give you a heads-up.

Can I pay for my invoice in a different currency?

Unfortunately, it's not possible. All invoices must be paid in the same currency in which the trip was originally booked.

How do I obtain Trip Information with full details of my trip?

Every trip has a set of Trip Information that provides in-depth information about all aspects of your trip. We'll send you this Essential Trip Information via email 30 days before your travel date.

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips when you're traveling internationally. It's crucial to ensure there are no barriers to getting emergency assistance for you.

For travelers residing within the European Union, Switzerland, or the USA, the purchase of travel insurance may not be compulsory. However, it's highly recommended as emergency medical and repatriation costs are very high for foreign travelers.

What kind of insurance do I need?

Minimum coverage may vary depending on the trip, so be sure to check with our team. At a minimum, your policy should cover medical expenses, including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that all travelers have a policy that also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage or personal effects. We encourage you to opt for the highest level of coverage to account for all eventualities.

Entry and health requirements

For the latest information on travel documents, visa requirements, and local government COVID-19 vaccination and quarantine policies, please refer here. Destination-specific general vaccination requirements can be found under the Medical and Health Information in each trip's Essential Trip Information.

How do I find out about the visa requirements for the trip I am interested in?

While we do provide information in our Trip Information document about visa requirements, please feel free to contact us if you need additional information. We always recommend that travelers check with their local embassy since visa rules can change without warning. Embassy websites in your home country will have information about requirements, visa costs, and the required forms. If you are uncomfortable with the visa process, you can visit a travel agent who can arrange these for you at a cost.

How do I organize my visa?

Please contact the relevant local embassy or visit a travel agent to organize your visas.

Do you help with visas?

ParomaTravels can assist with information on visas, and you may email us for any information.

Safety and Medical Information

I am concerned about the political stability of the country I will travel through on my trip.
The safety of our travelers, leaders, and operators is a major priority for Paroma Travels. With this in mind, we closely monitor world events and make operational decisions based on informed advice from various sources. Refer to the Travel Alerts - Sherpa page for the most up-to-date information.

How safe are my belongings while on the trip?

While we take all possible precautions to ensure the safety of your belongings, we travel to some exciting destinations that are sometimes home to skilled thieves. Travel insurance is a must, and a lockable bag or money belt can be very helpful.

What is the best way to carry money?

We recommend having access to money from various sources, including cash, cards, and travel money cards, which are commonly used. Check your Trip Information and the relevant destination page on our website for more country-specific information.

Collapsible content

Will refrigeration be available for medicines (e.g., insulin)?

The availability of refrigeration cannot be guaranteed. In general, many of our city hotels provide access to small fridges inside your room. However, especially when trekking or in homestay environments, access to refrigeration may not be reliable. Please be sure to inform ParomaTravels if you are traveling with medication that requires refrigeration.

What are the medical and vaccination requirements?

Medical and general vaccination requirements vary between nations, and as we are not medical practitioners, we cannot advise on this issue. Please consult your local GP or travel doctor for details and advice on current vaccination requirements. Information about COVID-19 vaccination requirements is available here.

What if I get ill or injured on the trip and am unable to continue?

Our team, including our local offices, is trained to handle these situations, and we will make every effort to get you help as quickly as possible. If you need to leave the trip early due to illness, our local offices will help you find appropriate medical care and ensure someone at home is informed of the situation. Your travel insurance, which is compulsory on all our trips, should cover any costs incurred in case of illness.

What is the currency in my destination? How much should I take in credit cards/cash? Can I use my credit card during my trip?

Your Trip Information includes a section on Money Matters. Please refer to it for budget guidelines. Traveler's cheques are no longer commonly used, so it's advisable to travel with a credit card and ATM card or a bank-issued 'cash card' specifically for travel. Having multiple options ensures that you are covered if one doesn't work. In certain countries, access to cash via ATMs can be unpredictable, so it's a good idea to have contingencies in place. Visa cards are generally more widely accepted than Mastercard.

What should I bring? What type of luggage ParomaTravels recommends to carry?

On most of our trips, assistance will be provided with your luggage while boarding transport or checking in and out of hotels. Therefore, we encourage you to adhere to international airlines' baggage weight policies and limit your luggage to one bag per passenger. This ensures comfortable travel without hassles. However, please check your domestic airlines' baggage policy before traveling.

Can I store excess luggage at the starting point hotel?

Due to security reasons, most hotels do not offer baggage storage facilities.

What clothes and footwear should I take?

Our Trip Information will provide a weather chart, and we encourage you to pack your clothing accordingly. A good pair of walking shoes or sandals is recommended for your journey unless you are going on a hike or trek.

What essential documents do I need to take?

It's important to always travel with your current passport, visas, travel insurance, and ParomaTravels documentation.

What time can I check in at my arrival hotel?

Generally, check-in time is at 2 pm. If you arrive earlier, you can usually store your luggage with the hotel and explore for a couple of hours.

Can I request an early check-in?

We can't guarantee early check-in, but our team can assist in booking you an extra night of pre-accommodation at the same hotel. If you prefer not to pay for an additional night, you can try your luck locally (they may allow early check-in if the room is available) or store your luggage.

What communication facilities will be available?

Communication facilities have greatly improved. Most hotels and public places offer Wi-Fi, allowing you to stay in touch with home daily if you desire. In some remote areas, communication may not be as readily available. You can consult our local office or guide for information before leaving such places so you can send a quick email or two. Phone cards are easily obtainable in major cities; just ensure your phone is unlocked before traveling. Alternatively, in many countries, making phone calls via the internet is the most cost-effective option.

How can friends and family contact you?

If family and friends cannot contact you via email or phone in an emergency, they can contact ParomaTravels directly. Emergency contact details for your destination are listed in your Trip Information, or they can contact one of our staff members who can pass on a message if needed.

Will my mobile work?

We cannot guarantee that your phone will function as expected, as many of our destinations are remote, and you may have limited coverage. Speak to your phone provider before your departure about global roaming and associated costs, and get their advice on the coverage you'll receive in the places you'll be traveling to. Alternatively, you can often obtain a local SIM card inexpensively (just ensure your phone is unlocked).

Will I get internet coverage?

Most places have Wi-Fi hotspots readily available, but in some areas, there may be no coverage at all. If you find yourself in a place with no coverage, take the rare opportunity to relax and get to know your fellow travelers the old-fashioned way.

Will I be able to charge my electrical appliances?

In most places, you'll be able to recharge your appliances at the hotel. We recommend that you bring a travel adapter with you. On our Overland trips, most vehicles come with their own power supply, so you should be able to recharge your devices onboard. It's a good idea to bring an extra camera battery just in case.

What type of ground transportation is used?

The type of transport used depends on your trip style. Our sales team will keep you informed about the specific type of transportation used on your journey.

Is tipping commonplace in other parts of the world?

Yes, in most places, tipping is expected. At your welcome meeting, you can inquire with Paroma Travels representatives about local customs and recommendations on tipping at restaurants or with local guides.

At the end of your trip, if you're happy with the service you received, providing a tip for the leader, while not compulsory, is appropriate. Although it may not be customary for you, it holds great significance for the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is a well-established practice in the tourism industry across many Intrepid destinations.

COVID-19

COVID-19

Are there vaccination or testing requirements for your trips?

ParomaTravels does not require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for most trips. However, we strongly recommend that all travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others. Please note that some trips may still require proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination. Refer to the Trip Information for your chosen tour for more details.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

What happens if someone on a trip shows symptoms of COVID-19?

If a traveler tests positive for COVID-19 and wishes to continue on their trip, they will be required to take additional precautionary measures to prevent transmission, including wearing a mask when in close contact with others.

ParomaTravels will always follow local COVID-19 regulations and protocols when they are stricter than our own.

Will I have to wear a mask when traveling?

ParomaTravels supports the use of masks as one way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We follow the guidance and requirements of local governments and individual businesses regarding mask-wearing.

Can I get a refund if I am unwell before my trip and unable to travel?

ParomaTravels does not have any specific COVID-19 cancellation conditions. Please refer to our standard booking conditions, which will be provided to you at the time of booking.**
