The Kumbh Mela stands as the single largest gathering of human beings at any one place and time worldwide. The term "Mela" denotes a gathering or fair, while "Kumbh" in Sanskrit translates to a pitcher. According to mythology, during the "Samudra Manthan," the churning of the oceans, drops of Amrit (the elixir of immortality) fell from the sacred Kumbh at four sites: Haridwar, Ujjain, Nasik, and Prayagraj, as gods and demons battled for possession.
According to astrologers, the spiritual positioning of planets plays a significant role. The Kumbh fair at Haridwar aligns with Jupiter entering Aquarius and the Sun entering Aries. Which begins with a visit to Lalbagh, the botanical garden spread over 240 acres and having a wide variety of exotic trees and plants. Finally visit the Bull Temple believed to have been constructed in the 16th century, has been carved out of a single granite block. Also drive past, the Maharaja Palace, Indian Institute of Science and the Public library.

Srirangapatnam – Here you will visit the remains of the fort and the Hindu temples and the summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. This little town of Srirangapatnam played an important role in the region since its origins in the 10th century, being the focal point in South India’s political development, the fort was built under the Vijaynagar kings in 1454, 150 years later the last Vijaynagar king handed over authority to the Hindu Wodeyars of Mysore, who made it their capital. In the second half of the 18th century, it became the capital of Haidar Ali, who defended it against the Marathas.

Sravanabelgola (meaning ‘the Monk of the White Pond’) is one of the Jain religion’s oldest and most important pilgrimage centers in India. It is home to the massive 18m monolithic Gomateshwara (or Bahubali) statue, and this colossal edifice towers over the placid and serene plain that it overlooks. Once in every 12 years, the town is thronged by lakhs of worshippers from all over the country and abroad, who come to pay their respects to the saint, and anoint him with their offerings. Otherwise, Bahubali watches in dreamy silence from the hill, the simplicity and serenity of his countenance reflecting the achievement of the supreme goal he struggled so long and hard to attain.

The Hoysalas who ruled southern parts of Karnataka from the 11th to the 14th century have built more than 150 temples, each a masterpiece of creation and the temples of Belur, Halebid and Somanatha-pura are the pinnacle of this exuberant activity. Hailed as `nectar in stone’ they are a tribute to that era. The Hoysala temples are built on a star-shaped pedestal and are centred around a pillared hall. The precise carving of the rounded surface of the pillars are so smooth they appear as if they are `lathe turned’. Every nook and corner of the temples pay delicate attention to the tiniest detail.
The Channakeshava temple at Belur which was built by the famous Hoysala ruler Vishnuvardhana in 1117 A.D. is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple was built to commemorate the king’s conversion from Jainism to Vaishnava faith under the influence of Saint Ramanuja. The Gopuram of this temple is a later addition probably made by Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagar. The most remarkable feature of this temple is the presence of 38 bracket figures of `Madanikas’. Beautiful, pensive, playful and amorous each figure is full of feminine grace and charm. One sculpted beauty wrings water from her long tresses and the drops of water are collected on hair ends. A thread inserted into the pupil of the eye emerges through the nose. The figures are so heavily ornamented they make us feel that perhaps the architects of the temple were originally jewellers by profession.
The Hoysaleshwara Temple at Halebid is one of the finest specimens of Hoysala creativity. Practically encyclopaedic in its sheer volume of carved pageantry, the temple has representations of Hindu deities, sages, birds, animals, hunting, agriculture, dance and music besides scenes of war. Two open-pillared Nandi Mandapas are situated in front of the temple. There is also a smaller temple, the Kedareswara at Halebid. Also notable is the imposing Hoysaleswara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Once the majestic capital of the powerful Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi is now a ruined city of ancient palaces and forts. Founded by Harihara and Bukka in 1336, the landscape of Hampi was dotted with magnificent palaces, sacred temples, massive fortifications, baths, markets, pavilions, and stables for royal elephants. The Vijayanagara kings were great patrons of art and Hampi became the epicentre of a flourishing indigenous culture.
The sprawling city was planned in such a way that the important structures are located in two areas, referred to as the Royal Centre and the Sacred Centre. The Royal Centre contains remnants of opulent palaces, baths, pavilions, royal stables, while the Sacred Centre locates holy temples. The Sacred Centre is situated on the northern edge of the city along the banks of the holy Tungabhadra River.
